Father Greg Boyle founded Homeboy Industries in 1988 to help at-risk youths in the Los Angeles community. At lunch today I hit up the local El Pollo Loco near my work. Fantastic Burrito and fries, yeah fries. But I do have to say that I hate when a company has the policy of getting your name when you order, a la Starbucks et al. With the fantastic name of Guy I know you would think everyone gets it right everytime. It’s as common as say Michael or maybe more like a Bartholomew. In my 26 years on this planet I have had no more than 10 occurrences of people getting it right. They always nod, smile and type in whatever it is that they heard. They could just be using a number system which is automated and would take less time. Don’t bother for my name holler at me with a number I don’t really need that fake corporate reaching out like it’s a mom and pop joint.

I’ve had some great names pulled out of the hat for me before. I went to an all boys Catholic high school so there’s nothing I haven’t heard with this fabolous, quasi porn starry, name of mine. I think my favorite from high school was Gay Schlong. It just works. Today, as you can see on the receipt, I was Gail. I mean it’s a mans name, right?! Yesterday I was at the same exact El Pollo Loco and my name was Gay. I mean learn your clientele at least if you gonna get it wrong. No Love lost though, food is on point.

I was out on the westside of town tonight to catch Theodore Melfi’s new short film Roshambo. It’s a very funny tale that revolves around the oft over looked game rock, paper, scissors.

After that we cruised over to Paco’s Tacos on Centinela to eat. Get some.

I headed out to MB2 Raceway for some indoor go karting today. Insanity ensued. I did one 14 lap race and finished 2nd out of 10. If you have a free weekend I definitely recommend going and getting your shake and bake on.

After the race we headed to Tere’s Mexican Grill on Melrose and had some carne asada burritos. Treated.

Was at my local Ralph’s grocery store re-upping on Chewy Bars and I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this in the soda aisle. Throwback Mountain Dew made with real sugar. I can’t get enough Dew in my life, or Amp, so this was quite the find. Pepsi should make this product available all the time. Do yourself a solid and cop some asap, wake those taste buds up.
