I saw these rad bike lockers in Pasadena the other day. City planners pay attention. If these were available in more places maybe people would ride bikes more. It’s the only way I would ever leave my BMX anywhere outside my house. Sick design.

I’ve been wanting to go on a photography adventure for awhile now so I decided while I was in Pasadena for Thanksgiving I would stop by Cal Tech to peep what their campus had to offer. Although I grew up not too far from the campus I had never actually seen it, besides the front gate, and was intrigued to check out their throwback architecture. It didn’t disappoint. Now that I’ve checked it out I shoulda TOTALLY applied, o wait it’s the #2 University in the world?! Well at least it’s fun to look at…

This fire pull was in the middle of a bush. No clue how it was supposed to be convenient in an emergency but I have never seen such sweet housing for a fire handle.

The fence for the Molecular Biology building blew my mind. Nice attention to detail.

I saw one of these Campus Directories while I was google image searching something and thought they were a pretty cool way to design a map holder instead of having a huge board like the mall.

Also check out the documentary Quantum Hoops. It follows the Cal Tech Beavers mens basketball team, as you can guess they are not all that athletic. This stat pretty much sums up the plot “Since their previous victory in 1985, the Beavers had not won a conference game in 21 years – a 259-game losing streak”. It’s a good watch if you have Netflix.

Last year while I was here for CMJ I took some pics of bikes I found around town. They are still some of the highest hit pages on my blog so I thought why not go around and find new bangers to keep whoever is peeping those pages happy. Here we go…

This last one wins for overall appearance and the radness factor. A knit top bar pad, a crazy crate basket and white walls. Stuntin’.

BMX-Games

My second favorite sporting competition, the X Games, is poppin’ off this weekend in my hometown of Los Angeles. I woke up this morning and watched the BMX jam session and also caught the skateboard street jam session. P. Rod murked it as usual and Nyjah Huston (14 years old FTW) is always a pleasure to watch, pause. I gotta say I love the “jam” format instead of the traditional 45 second session. It’s a flurry of the guys’ best tricks with no filler. Gnar gnar.
So after soaking in the X Games and all the “extreme” ads that companies come up with to stay relevant to America’s youth I watched a movie I didn’t even know existed, BMX Bandits. It was released in 1983 and features a young Nicole Kidman. It’s filmed in Australia and I’m sure it is to Aussie’s what the movie Rad is to people my age from the States. Give it a watch if you get some time not quite the Oscar contender but a fun movie that has some serious BMX’s in it. Redline’s, Mongooses and Colored Mag’s for days.

I finished my mid 90′s Mongoose Hooligan BMX build a couple weeks ago but have lagged on getting some photos up. Let me introduce you to my bike his nickname is Tony Danza, cause he’s the boss. SE Racing Landing Gear forks, SE lightning bolt seat, Skyway Tuff white mags, Redline Flight cranks, Redline bottom bracket, AME grips, Ciari headset, Ciari Stem and red all over.

Tucked the brake.

Peep the bottle opener on the bottom of the seat. Perfect for that cool down champagne of beers when arriving at your destination.

Fanny Packs Are Making A Comeback

Ok so I have been debating whether I should get a fanny pack or not with my roommate. I was under the impression that this would make me look like a douche. I only want it for when I’m on my moped or BMX and don’t want to bring along a whole backpack, although I have many. With that said i found a forum on Joe Rogan’s website saying that he wears them and that many bad-asses around the planet do also. I researched and here is what I found…
