My second favorite sporting competition, the X Games, is poppin’ off this weekend in my hometown of Los Angeles. I woke up this morning and watched the BMX jam session and also caught the skateboard street jam session. P. Rod murked it as usual and Nyjah Huston (14 years old FTW) is always a pleasure to watch, pause. I gotta say I love the “jam” format instead of the traditional 45 second session. It’s a flurry of the guys’ best tricks with no filler. Gnar gnar.
So after soaking in the X Games and all the “extreme” ads that companies come up with to stay relevant to America’s youth I watched a movie I didn’t even know existed, BMX Bandits. It was released in 1983 and features a young Nicole Kidman. It’s filmed in Australia and I’m sure it is to Aussie’s what the movie Rad is to people my age from the States. Give it a watch if you get some time not quite the Oscar contender but a fun movie that has some serious BMX’s in it. Redline’s, Mongooses and Colored Mag’s for days.
